Maj. Gen. Alan Dohrmann was appointed adjutant general of the North Dakota National Guard by then-Gov. Jack Dalrymple in October 2015. He also serves as director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.

The first game and fish laws in what would become the state of North Dakota were enacted in 1861. In 1875, the Territorial Legislature placed limits on hunting quail and some water birds.
Pouring rain gave way to snow on this date in 1876. Bismarck Tribune reporter Mark Kellogg wrote of two to three inches of snow on the ground at 4 o’clock in the morning, “and snowing hard.”
